There’s no better time to spend time outdoors!
It’s official. Summer break has come to an end, as kids headed back to school the day after Labor Day. Though summer doesn’t officially end until September 22, it’s time to say goodbye summer, and hello fall, as the seasons transition and life gets a bit slower paced and a bit quieter.
Now that those weeks of the hustle and bustle of entertaining family and friends and busy tourist season have come to an end, it’s time to enjoy North Idaho without the crowds. And the best way to do that is to get outside, take in all the beauty and activity this place is known for, and enjoy.
Though the water is a bit chillier this time of year, there’s nothing like spending the morning or early evening out on the water. Our lakes and rivers are ideal for kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding—and remember, it’s always a good idea to go with a friend.
Throughout Post Falls, there is no shortage of scenic hiking trails for all ages and abilities. Take a hike on the Old Wagon Loop, Falls Park Overlook, Black Bay Park, or Shasta Butte (with many more trails to choose from).
The City of Post Falls is working toward the development of a 500-acre multi-use natural area called the Post Falls Community Forest, with hundreds of acres ready to explore now. The naturally forested area encompasses approximately 2 miles of Spokane River frontage, with hiking and mountain biking trails. It is open for non-motorized public recreation and can be accessed by entering the trailhead located in Q’emiln Park.
For those active cyclists, or those wanting to get started, the North Idaho Centennial Trail spans 24 miles from the Stateline through Post Falls and ending near Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Rock-climbing enthusiasts and beginners alike will be happy to know that Post Falls is known as one of the top fingertip-friendly rock-climbing regions in the Northwest. Situated next to the Spokane River and surrounded by forestland, you’ll find more than 100 well-maintained rock-climbing routes waiting for you. These rock walls are perfect for everyone; advanced climbers and incredible fun for anyone interested in climbing outdoors for the first time.
