WINTER ACTIVITIES

Black Bay Park is 56 acres of pure outdoor bliss in Post Falls, complete with paved walking and biking trails that connect to the Centennial Trail, prime fishing spots, and Spokane River views that’ll make you question why you ever spend time indoors. Bonus: dogs are welcome—as long as they’re leashed and don’t have a side hustle as a park ranger.

Corbin Park stretches over 28 scenic acres along the Spokane River, offering everything from rafting and kayaking to fishing access. But its real claim to fame? One of the most popular 18-hole disc golf courses in the region. So, if you’ve ever wanted to perfect your frisbee skills while surrounded by nature, this is your moment. Dogs? Yep, they can tag along—leash required, no exceptions.

Falls Park packs a lot into 22 acres, featuring ADA-paved paths that wind through the steep canyon where the Spokane River dramatically tumbles over the falls. Observation decks give you front-row seats to nature’s best water show, especially in spring when the runoff is in full, roaring force. And yes, for those bringing their four-legged hiking buddy—leashes are mandatory.

Q’emiln Park (which is pronounced however your heart desires) is a sprawling 78.5-acre paradise along the Spokane River, boasting a swimming beach, boat launch, epic climbing walls, miles of trails, and access to the Post Falls Community Forest. Basically, it’s the ultimate park for any occasion… unless your occasion includes a dog. Sorry, no pups allowed here.

The Route of the Hiawatha is what happens when Mother Nature and old-school railroad engineering team up to create the ultimate biking and hiking experience. Touted as the “Crown Jewel” of Rail-to-Trail projects in the U.S., this world-class 15-mile downhill ride in the Bitterroot Mountains is packed with tunnels, sky-high trestles, and enough jaw-dropping scenery to fill your camera roll. A shuttle gets you back to the top, because uphill is overrated. No dogs allowed—so leave Fido at home unless he’s got a thing for historic railways and feeling left out.

The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is 73 miles of smooth, scenic asphalt winding through Idaho’s historic Silver Valley, along the Coeur d’Alene River, past the lake, and through rolling farmland. Cyclists, walkers, Nordic skiers, and even in-line skaters (yes, they still exist) are welcome. With 20 trailheads and dozens of picturesque resting spots, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure dream. Dogs are allowed—as long as they’re leashed and respect the local squirrel population.

Tubbs Hill is a 165-acre slice of lakefront heaven right in downtown Coeur d’Alene. If you like your hikes served with jaw-dropping water views, this is the place. The natural terrain keeps things interesting (and keeps it off-limits for ADA access), but it’s well worth the effort. Plus, dogs are welcome—on a leash, of course. So, grab your pup, soak in the scenery, and pretend you’re in a nature documentary.
